It is possible and not tooooo difficult to set up shadowing experiences at St. Charles. These can be useful if you’re interested in a health career, such as an ER EMT/Technician, PA, Nurse, Physician etc. and you want to get experience in a clinical setting.
General info:
- Applicants need to have graduated high school and be at least 18 years old to request a shadow experience.
- Job shadowing is limited to observation only and does not involve hands-on patient care, direct patient contact or acquiring clinical skills.
- Requests must be made at least three (3) weeks in advance of the requested shadowing dates.
- Shadows are short term (maximum of 20 total hours) and depend on the availability of caregivers
Requirements include:
- Age >18
- Background Check ($20 fee). Cash or check only. Bring payment with you when you pick up your badge. Checks can be made out St. Charles Health System.
- Attend a 30-minute virtual Orientation
- Receive a SCHS photo identification badge
- Complete online learning modules
- Between December 1st- April 1st, you are highly encouraged to receive a flu shot prior to shadowing. If you have not received this season’s flu shot, please wear a mask during your observation.
- COVID vaccination is no longer mandated, but is highly encouraged. We are still required to track vaccination status.
- Negative TB Test Result
- You are responsible for coordinating your own QuantiFERON TB-Gold blood draw and submitting your negative test result. Test results are valid for up to 2 years.
- Dr. Fink can call an order for you to the lab of your choice.
